Kyrgyzstan — Educational project in Bishkek
Free English and IT classes for children of a deprived district of Bishkek, with the NGO Buchur Development Center.
A free educational project
The Mire-Mont Foundation supports an educational project run by a local NGO, the Buchur Development Center, active since 2018 — partly thanks to a British initiative, Ehrayim Aid Trust UK. It offers school-age children from a very deprived district of Bishkek free English and IT introductory classes in their mother tongue.
The Foundation’s support
The Foundation’s funding helped expand the programme, hire highly qualified teachers, buy teaching and IT equipment and refurbish the premises. The programme now has 205 English students (12 groups) and 72 IT students (9 groups), with three one-hour lessons per week.
Remarkable results
The success rate, about 85%, is very high thanks to highly motivated students; two advanced-English students won prizes in an inter-school competition. Demand is very strong and many applicants cannot be admitted. The programme cost remains very modest: about €120 per student per year.
