Togo — Lavié primary school
Support, via the Swiss NGO UAT, to a primary school in the village of Lavié: sanitary block and a vegetable garden for the canteen.
The Lavié school
The Foundation supported the Swiss NGO UAT — United With Togo, which runs educational projects in its members’ country of origin. The support focused on the village of Lavié, about 100 km from the capital, and on a primary school in a precarious situation: some 420 children (280 boys, 140 girls). In the dry season, classes are held outdoors under the trees; in the rainy season, in a large shed.
A permanent sanitary block
The Foundation’s contribution funded a permanent sanitary block, with running water, hand-washing and other facilities, reducing the risk of disease.
A vegetable garden for the canteen
A pump installed in a nearby river enabled a vegetable garden (cabbages, aubergines and other vegetables) whose produce feeds the canteen, so children and teachers have a hot, nutritious meal every day. The impact is visible: enrolment has increased.
